| Description: |
A Natural Resource Officer received a
request for assistance from a Public
Health Inspector who was in the process
of doing an inspection at the CVM Café
restaurent in Carberry. The PHI had
observed numerous walleye in the
freezers within the restaurant.
The Officer attended at the restaurant
and assisted in the seizure of 101
walleye. The walleye were frozen fresh
and in the round. When asked how he had
come into possession of the fish the
accused stated he had purchased some of
them from another person.
Further investigation determined that
the accused had written a cheque to the
seller of the fish as payment. The
seller was not a commercial fisherman,
therefore not authorized to sell fish.
It is an offence to purchase fish from
any person other than a licenced
commercial fisherman or from the
Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation.
On September 13, 2006 Kwan Yuen of
Carberry, Mb. plead guilty to over
possession of walleye and was fined
$1001.00 in Brandon Provincial Court. A
charge of purchasing fish illegally was
stayed by the crown attorney. |
