| Description: |
While conducting regular hunting
compliance checks, Selkirk Officers had
occasion to inspect a party of 6
migratory bird hunters. This party was
comprised of 5 Americans and 1 Canadian.
They were observed hunting a field near
the Oak Hammock Wildlife Management Area.
Subsequent to the compliance check,
Stanley Guse of Ontario and Mathew Wolff
of Nebraska were observed to be in
possession of all 25 Canada Geese and 2
mallard ducks. The other 4 hunters were
gone. There were no tags identifying
the owner of each bird visible or
produced to the officers.
The birds were destined for a nearby
Hutterite Colony for cleaning. They
were also going to be left with the Colony.
Photographs were taken of the birds and
they were subsequently delivered to the
Colony.
Guse and Wolff pleaded guilty and were
assessed the specified penalty of $935.
They are also suspended from hunting
migratory game birds in Canada for one year. |
