Item: Possess over quotas of walleye, goldeye; Sell fish without issuing a commercial trade record
Description: A fish and wildlife check stop at the U.S. /Canadian Border in early October 2005 resulted in a search of buildings and subsequent seizure of walleye fillets and round goldeyes from a residence at Lockport. Raye Porhownik was charged with being over his walleye and goldeye quotas. He was also charged with selling fish without a dealer's licence. Evidence from the search revealed that Porhownik had bought his fish from William Sanderson of Selkirk, MB and Daniel Klatt of the Winnipeg Beach, MB area. There were no commercial trade records of these transactions. Sanderson pleaded guilty to failing to issue a Commercial Trade Record in November 2005. Klatt defaulted his conviction for failing to issue a Commercial Trade Record. Porhownik recently pleaded guilty to being over his walleye and goldeye quotas in return for stay of proceedings on the 2 commercial sales charges. Sanderson received a $535 fine. Klatt also received a $535 fine plus another $50 in default. Porhownik received $1,500 in fines plus he forfeited all the fish that was seized.
