Item: Nightlighting, discharge firearm from provincial road and driving while disqualified.
Description: Roblin District officers, who are some of the best officers in Manitoba responded to public complaints of illegal hunting. On November 11, 2005 they set up an elk decoy on private land adjacent to Provincial Road #584. Later that night, a spot light was observed originating from a vehicle followed by the sound of several rifle rounds discharged in the direction of the decoy. Three individuals were detained as a result of the decoy operation. Barry McKay of Valley River was convicted of hunt at night with lights and Leslie Strongquill of Valley River was convicted of hunt at night with lights, discharge firearm from Provincial Road and driving while disqualified. The charges against the 3rd individual were stayed by the Crown. A total of $2400 in fines was levied. Forfeitures included a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 truck, two firearms, ammunition and other hunting gear. McKay and Ironstand had prior convictions for nightlighting.
