| Description: |
On or about June 1, 2006 officers had
occasion to inspect a Commercial
Fishing and Bait Fishing operation.
During this inspection, the officers
observed approximately 10 packages of
walleye fillets in a freezer. The
Commercial Fisherman stated that the
fish belonged to another Commercial
Fisherman named Wesley COOKE. This
person was asked to produce a loadslip
authorizing the transportation of the
fish from the water body of origin to
a destination other than the nearest
fishing plant. No loadslip had been
completed or made available to this
person.
The fish were seized and Wesley COOKE
was charged. He received a fine of
$402.
The illegal movement and sales of fish
taken from Lake Winnipeg is an
enormous problem that affects all
commercial fishers. Resource Officers
diligently enforce transportation and
commercial sales regulations as they
try to curb these illegal sales. |
