| Description: |
While conducting white-tail deer
hunting patrols near Shellmouth, MB an
officer had occasion to stop a truck
with two hunters. A male deer was
observed in the back of the truck
which had already been field dressed,
antlers removed from the head and the
head/lung put in a plastic bag for
Chronic Wasting Disease testing. The
time was 8:00 AM. Legal shooting time
was about 7:40 am.
The officer observed a game tag on the
animal valid for GHA 23. The hunters
were in GHA 22. They told the officer
the animal was shot east of Russell
and dressed at the driver’s residence.
The officer concluded their location
was well over 30 miles from where they
were and that would make it impossible
to make the kill, dress the animal and
drive all the way over to Shellmouth
unless the animal had been shot too
early.
The shooter Michael NORTHRUP of
Dauphin, Manitoba admitted to the
offence. He was charged and did plead
guilty to one count of failing to
comply with the terms of the license
and was fined $230.00. The deer and
antlers were forfeited.
