| Description: |
While on a recreational fishery
compliance patrol, officers had
occasion to approach a boat occupied
by a lone male. This person was
angling. At approximately 30 metres
and closing in, the officers
identified themselves to the lone
male. He immediately turned his back
to the officers and made the often
observed arm motion synonymous with
breaking line.
The officers yelled several times to
stop all movement. The male did not
comply.
The officers pulled up along side the
subject's boat and asked him to give
up the rod. The line was broken. The
officers told the subject, now
identified as Ivan JOHNSON of Selkirk
that obstructing a peace officer by
not complying to orders and breaking
the line, was far more serious than
fishing with a barbed hook.
Further inspection of other rods in
JOHNSON's boat revealed 3 violations
for having a barbed hook attached to
end of line. All items involved with
the offences were seized.
Ivan JOHNSON was issued an Appearance
Notice for Obstructing a Fisheries
Officer and 3 counts of having a
barbed hook attached to the end of a
line.
On November 4, 2005 Ivan JOHNSON
received fines totalling $258 for the
above offences. |
