| Description: |
Boissevain Natural Resource Officers
received a complaint from a landowner
with respect to having witnessed two
individuals, dressed in blaze orange,
shoot two deer on his property. The
complainant had approached the
individuals and asked who they were
while he got a plate number from their
vehicle. The complainant then watched
the individuals load the deer onto their
sport utility vehicle. Natural Resource
Officers quickly attended the location
as the landowner had blocked the hunters
from vacating the property. Arrival at
the field showed that the subjects had
loaded two male deer onto the roof of
their vehicle. Officers then inspected
the interior of the vehicle and found a
loaded firearm. The deer were inspected
and they did not have the required game
tags attached. The subjects had tags
that were not notched and one individual
was using an invalid tag for the area.
After questioning, it was learned that
indeed the subjects had trespassed onto
private land where they did not have
permission to hunt and had shot the two
deer. The subjects were informed that
they had committed hunt on private land
without permission, possess illegally
taken wildlife, fail to notch/attach tag
to game, exceed big game bag limit and
carry loaded firearm in a vehicle
violations. They were issued appearance
notices to attend the Killarney Court.
NROs seized the deer and all the
evidence pertaining to the offences. The
subjects attended court and one subject
was fined a total of $1297.00 for 3
Wildlife Act offences and the second
subject was fined $648.50 for 2 Wildlife
Act offences. All seized items were
forfeited to the crown. The seized deer
were cut/wrapped and donated to the
local food banks following the court
disposition. |
