Central Region NROs conducted
inspections of various fish retailing
businesses in Winnipeg and surrounding
communities. They had occasion to
inspect Sonia's Restaurant on Henderson
Highway, Winnipeg.
The restaurant owner Vratislav Vodrazka
was in possession of 36 walleye fillets
but no documentation authorizing his
possession of these fillets for resale
to the consumer.
He pleaded guilty to the offence and
received a fine of $619.
The uncontrolled harvest and sales of
walleye is a tremendous issue for
Manitoba. It is estimated that hundreds
of thousands of kilograms of walleye are
sold illegally in Manitoba. Officers
conduct inspections of commercial
operations to assist in the proper
management of fishery resources. |
