Description: A Selkirk Officer was conducting a recreational fishery patrol of Lake Winnipeg when he had occasion to inspect the accused. As the officer on snowmobile approached a party of 3 anglers, one of the anglers jumped up off of his sled and began walking away while slamming the tip of his rod on the ice. The officer ordered the angler to stop moving. The officer checked the lure attached to the fishing rod and it was barbless. The officer then counted all the rods in the water. There were 7 rods actively fishing or 1 more than allowed for 3 anglers. The extra rod had a barbed hook attached to it and belonged to Jim Price of Portage. Jim Price had two other rods in the water which explained his attempts at trying to break off the hook from one rod as the officer approached. Jim Price pleaded guilty on March 6, 2009 and received fines of $102 and $52 for a total of $154 for both offences.
