| Description: |
Portage Officers had occasion to patrol
an area on a Sunday during the deer
seasons. They encountered a parked pick
up truck with a dead deer and bags of
corn in the box. Further investigation
revealed Doris FEARS of Winnipeg sitting
in a tree stand over looking a corn
field. She was hunting over piles of
corn, not wearing hunter orange and on a
Sunday in an area where there was no
Sunday hunting.
Doris FEARS identified herself as a
Treaty person which cleared her of
hunting over bait, failing to wear
hunter orange and hunting on Sunday in
this area. However, she did not have
permission to hunt on this private land.
On December 4, 2008 Doris FEARS pleaded
guilty with an explanation that she
believed she was on Crown Land. She
received a reprimand plus $50 court costs. |
