Exceed daily bag limit of Canada Geese |
| |
| Description: |
Selkirk officers received information
regarding the potential wastage of
migratory game birds by a group of
hunters in a field north of Winnipeg.
An officer encountered the group and
spoke with Kurt Douglas LEMKE of Iowa.
Kurt Douglas LEMKE stated that the group
(6 hunters) had 30 Canada and 22 Snow
and Blue geese. The Canada goose limit
is 5 per hunter so it appeared that the
group was within its limit.
Further investigation resulted in the
recovery of 41 Canada and 12 Snow and
Blue geese carcasses. By counting 41
Canada goose carcasses, officers had
evidence that the group had exceeded
their daily bag limit by 11 and that
Kurt Douglas LEMKE had knowingly made a
false statement to a Game Officer.
Charged with exceeding the daily bag
limit of migratory game birds were Kurt
LEMKE of Van Meter, IOWA, Matthew LEMKE
of Waukee, IOWA, Frank RIVERA of
Indianola, IOWA, Mark STRUVE of Des
Moines, IOWA, Philip KICKLITER of
Springhill, Florida and David KICKLITER
of Parrotsville, Tennessee. Kurt
Douglas LEMKE was also charged with
making a false statement to a Game
Officer. Each accused received written
notice of a one year suspension of
migratory game bird hunting privileges
in Canada upon conviction or a guilty plea.
As of November 2, 2007 all the accused
had pleaded guilty to the offenses and
paid fines totaling $5230.
U.S. Federal and State Governments as
well as Canadian Federal and Provincial
Governments are assigned the
responsibility of managing North
American migratory game bird
populations. The management strategy
includes placing limits on harvest to
prevent over harvesting by licenced
hunters. These harvest limits are
strictly enforced across all
jurisdictions. The subject Kurt Douglas
LEMKE is a professional guide and
outdoors outfitter in the state of Iowa.
